Bonne année / Happy New Year
Hello everyone!
I wish you and all your beloved ones a Happy New Year and as we traditionally say in France, I wish you a good health. A French won’t wish you a Happy New Year before the time has come. It’s a sort of superstition, I suppose. What if something happens? (I would never throw a baby shower either, to afraid to jinx something and attract back luck. I’ve never heard of receiving presents before the baby is born.)
But now we’re officially in 2017, so it’s safe to wish you the best and hope that the world will be a better place because let’s face it, 2016 wasn’t a great year on that front.
Thank you to all readers and commenters for spending my 2016 reading year with me. I’ll post a best of 2016 list later, I can’t publish it before the year is over. What if I read a masterpiece right the last week of December and my best-of list is already published. 🙂
I have no plans for 2017, except to limit my TBR. I wonder of it’s just wishful thinking or one of those January good resolutions. Time will tell.

Limiting the TBR (I’m not even talking about decreasing it now) is a necessary challenge. The kindle helps because I know I can have the book whenever I want it and I’m not tempted to buy it right away.

I share your superstition about the baby shower and wishing happy birthday before the birthday, but I’ve certainly jumped the gun with the New Year wishes, so glad was I to get rid of that dratted 2016! Looking forward to many good reads and reviews with you in 2017!

I forgot the birthday thing but it’s the same. No way I’ll organise a party before the date.
2016 was bad. 2015 had ended terribly in Paris.
2016 ended with the death of one of my English teachers, George Michael. Not that he was aware of the English lessons he was giving me but learning the lyrics of his songs by heart imprinted some grammar examples in my head. It helped memorising what I was learning in school.
Let’s hope 2017 will be better. I’m looking forward to following your reading journey. I hope your life gets easier.

Ah, non. Mon père est très vieux et fragile et j’ai besoin d’être ici s’il devient soudain malade. Il a fallu 38 heures pour rentrer d’Europe quand il était très malade en 2015. Ma mère était en vie alors, mais maintenant, c’est à moi de m’occuper de lui… C’est trop long si, par exemple, il a cassé une hanche ou a eu une crise cardiaque. Et il n’est pas possible d’obtenir une assurance pour un vol d’urgence vers l’Australie parce qu’il est trop vieux. Donc pour l’instant je vais voir le monde à travers mes livres.

bonne année bonne santé à toi aussi. Moi aussi, comme beaucoup d’autres, cette année j’attaque la PAL, ou plutôt les PALS: livres imprmés, ceux sur mon kindle et ceux sur mon Nook…
Ici, les baby showers avec des tonnes de cadeaux, bien avant la naissance de bébé, sont vraiment très en vogue… Comme aussi les célébrations d’anniversaire dès le 1er anniversaire, avec beaucoup d’amis des parents et des montagnes de cadeaux. Ce que je trouve à la limite du scandaleux. J’ai vu une petite de 3 ans en avoir marre de déballer ses cadeaux après le 5ème, et elle en avait bien 10 fois plus…

Je vois qu’on sera dans le même bateau, concernant la PAL. Je suis plutôt du genre “peu importe le flacon, pourvu qu’on ait l’ivresse”, donc je suis une pile globale.
Je n’ai pas encore entendu parler de babyshowers ici. Mais patience, ça finira bien par venir. On n’en est pas encore là pour les anniversaires des petits. Personnellement, j’ai toujours considéré qu’il fallait faire simple. Les enfants se satisfont de peu, en fait.
